A Beginner's Guide to Beauty & Makeover Photo Shoot
A Beauty (or Makeover) photo shoot can be misunderstood, and even a cause for worry, but…
It really is a fun and exciting way to boost your confidence, and to capture a different side of your personality, with a new look, in stunning images.
Whether you're planning a complete transformation or simply want to enhance your natural beauty, a professional photo shoot can help you showcase your most fabulous self!
How We Plan Your Makeover
Before you step in front of the camera, there are a few things we’ll need to discuss, to ensure your photo shoot is a success, and this is why all my Portrait Session Packages include a Pre-Session Consultation, which I consider to be an absolute must!.
1. We’ll Talk About a Theme or a Concept:
What kind of look do you love and would like to achieve?
Is it a glamorous, vintage, or a more natural, everyday look?
Having a clear idea of your desired style will help us both better style your session.
3. Choosing Your Outfits:
Select outfits that complement your chosen look, and make you feel confident and beautiful.
I encourage you to bring a variety of options to allow for different poses and styles, and you will also have use of the Studio Wardrobe, to pick something different!
Getting Ready Is Much More Than Just Make-Up and Clothes!
Your preparations also need to include self-care, even before the day of your shoot.
1. A Good Night's Sleep:
Being well-rested and feeling fully present will show in your complexion, and overall demeanour.
So, if at all possible, aim for a full 7 to 8 hours’ of sleep the night before your shoot.
Easier said than done, I know! But there will be a real difference in the final results, if you are well-rested.
2. Nutrition:
You’d probably not think so, but starting your day with a nutritious breakfast will give you the energy you need for the shoot.
So it is best to avoid sugary or greasy foods that can make you feel sluggish.
Also remember to bring water and nutritious snacks for the shoot as, although you will not be exerting yourself too much, a photo shoot can be quite tiring and being able to stop and have a drink or a snack will help you stay motivated, and hydrated.
So We Are At The Photo Shoot… Here Is Some Advice To Bear In Mind!
1. Relax and Have Fun:
So very important!
Although a photo shoot can be initially a bit scary, remember that this is your time to shine!
I’ll always ensure that you will not be rushed, and that you will be able to have an enjoyable experience.
2. Put Your Trust In Me!
It is also very important that you feel completely at ease working with me, and I will do all I can to ensure that this is always the case.
I will guide you through your photo shoot, will help you pose, and will also help you to relax by ensuring you have adequate breaks, and by making terrible jokes!
All I ask is that you trust my professional skills and know that I will only ever do my best for you.
3. Always Feel Confident You Can Communicate With Me:
Don't be afraid to let me know if you're not comfortable with a particular pose! There is no right or wrong, and what we do must work for you.
Communicating with each other is key to achieving the look you’ve always dreamed of having.
4. We’ll Experiment with Different Poses, Lighting, and Angles:
We will try different poses, light set-ups, and angles, to find what flatters you most.
You are a unique individual and what works for others will not necessarily be what works best for you, so come to your photo shoot with an open mind.
5. Be Expressive In Your Unique Way:
After Your Photo Shoot
1. Sneaky-Peek:
A day or two after your shoot I will post a sneaky-peek on social media (this does not apply to Boudoir portraits), and this gives you e chance to share the image with your loved ones, in your own social media channels!
It always causes a flurry of excitement, and of positive feedback!
2. The Portrait Reveal:
Final Tips For a Successful Beauty & Makeover Photo Shoot
Look at makeover photo shoots online and in magazines to get inspiration for your own shoot. (but remember: what works for other women and for models will not necessarily work for you - You are an individual and will be photographed as such!)
Create a mood board of images, colours, and textures that match your desired look.
Set a budget: Determine how much you're willing to spend on your photo shoot and on the products, afterwards. Prices and “start from” guides are available on the website.
Rely on supportive people: Surround yourself with friends or family members who will make you feel confident and beautiful.
Most of all: have fun and enjoy the experience!
And Remember:
This makeover photo shoot will be a celebration of your beauty, uniqueness, and individuality.
Embrace the process and let your confidence shine through, in your amazing portraits!
