A Breast Cancer Journey And a Very Special Portrait Experience Session!

Rachel contacted me after finding one of my blog posts, through Google.

The post was about a breast cancer photo shoot I did for one of two amazing ladies, who when through their own journeys of diagnosis, treatment, and remission from the disease.

Meet Rachel!

Portraits of woman celebrate her resilience. Left: Smiling, wearing pink sweater, hands under chin. Centre: blue outfit with embroidery, she gazes at camera. Right: black-and-white shot captures her strength as proud breast cancer survivor

When Rachel contacted me and told me about her journey, and where she was at that point, I found it very moving.

(It is impossible for me not to feel emotional every time I speak to a woman facing a breast cancer diagnosis)

She wanted to find out about a Beauty Studio Experience, and also about an outdoor shoot, right here in Cornwall, to coincide with a visit to family - and also with the end of her chemo, and before the upcoming surgery.

But it Wasn’t Just About Her…

black and white photo of couple with man in dark shirt standing behind woman in long dress. The woman is a beast cancer survivor. A coloured version on the right captures the same photo shoot against a dark backdrop. Both are smiling warmly.

This photo shoot was to also be about the closeness and love between Rachel and her husband, and I was made aware, from the start, that he was a very important part of it!

couple in matching white shirts embrace lovingly against plain background. The woman, bald and with red nails, appears confident and serene. The man, with short hair, looks at her affectionately. images convey warmth and connection.
A breast cancer survivor and her husband share affectionate moments in photo collage. In each black and white picture, they pose closely, smiling and embracing each other against a dark backdrop, conveying warmth and intimacy.

We styled the shoot to be, mainly, casual but Rachel also brought along a couple of beautiful dresses to give the shoot a more sophisticated look.

I loved creating the different looks and images’ in both colour and black & white, with darker (low key) and brighter (high key) set ups!

Woman wearing a black outfit, poses smiling confidently, embodying the strength of a breast cancer survivor. She has an arm behind her head against muted green background. The image captures the resilience and grace in a professional portrait.
Woman wearing a black top with floral embroidery, posing confidently with arms crossed on the left and hands on hips on the right. The background is dark, and the lighting emphasises her features. She is a breast cancer survivor.

I Felt Truly Humble

It is always a genuine thrill and honour to photograph all of my clients, but the photo shoots with women who have lived through such harrowing times bring a different energy to the studio…

To capture Rachel’s beauty, strength, and courage was truly humbling and emotional.

I know I keep using this word, but it is because I absolutely mean it: It was an honour!

Four black and white portraits feature a joyful couple. They embrace, leaning on each other, with expressions of affection and laughter. The woman is a breast cancer survivor.

And I am thrilled that her husband was a part of this portrait experience, as to capture their very deep bond and love for each other definitely added a very special layer to the images!

Rachel and her husband love their images, and I am so very happy to know that they will be treasured as part of their life’s story…
