Menopause Mythbusting: Facts, Experts and Real Stories Workshop!
For too long, menopause has been a subject tiptoed around, wrapped in myths and whispered about as though it were something to be ashamed of.
But the reality is simple: menopause is a universal experience, and the more we talk about it, the more we empower ourselves and those around us.
That’s exactly why I’m thrilled to be photographing The Menopause Mythbusting Workshop: an event dedicated to tackling the taboos, challenging the clichés, and sparking real conversations.
The Myths That Need Retiring
Let’s take a look at a few:
Myth 1: Menopause is just hot flushes.
Not even close. Symptoms can range from brain fog and sleepless nights to mood changes, joint pain, and so much more.
Myth 2: It only happens in your 50s.
Menopause doesn’t wait for a milestone birthday. Perimenopause can start in your 40s (sometimes earlier), and medical or surgical menopause can arrive much sooner than expected.
Myth 3: It’s embarrassing to talk about.
If anything’s embarrassing, it’s how little open discussion there’s been until recently. Honest conversations create understanding and support — for everyone.
The Experts in the Room
Alison Theaker is not only a client of mine! She is also an expert in Menopause Advice!

This event isn’t just about breaking myths; it’s about learning from people who know their stuff and aren’t afraid to speak openly:
Dr Johanneke Kodde – bringing medical expertise and insight to help demystify the science behind menopause.
Alison Theaker – offering practical guidance, grounded wisdom, and real-world advice.
Anne Hope – sharing lived experience, compassion, and an authentic voice that reminds us no one is alone in this journey.
Together, they’ll cover the medical, practical, and human sides of menopause — making the subject approachable, informative, and even uplifting.
Why I’ll Be There
As the event photographer, my role is to capture the energy in the room: the connections, the laughs, the lightbulb moments.
For me, photography is about telling stories, and I can’t think of a story more worth telling than one that challenges silence and replaces it with community and confidence.
